This blog is dedicated to modern homes and I usually feature more then one but today i am only featuring this one because it deserves to be on it own.. Its a stunning example of what the very definition of modern contemporary means and is a beautifully designed, all inclusive, amazing structure... Located in Johasesburg South Africa it is indeed an impressive residence.. and all I can say is simply Amazing...

Five Storey Dream Home design ideas. House Lam design with beautiful indoor and outdoor sensation. this home remodel of a 1950?s house in Bedfordview, a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa by Nico van der Meulen Architects.Werner van der Meulen designed the infinity edge pool to extend over the steep fall, placing it on a single 3m diameter column, cantilevering nearly six metres. He created a massive rock clad wall which bisects the building on a north-south axis, then transforms into a huge red-painted beam which helps to support the lanai roof.

Five Storey Dream Home with frameless stacking doors fold away to create a seamless indoor/outdoor sensation, with the pool jutting into the living area with the doors open. The original foot print area was extended to create extra garages and a new first floor added , which houses three suites, a pyjama lounge and a kid’s study. Staff accommodation was placed on top of the new garage.

The original two kids bedrooms became a study, and the original main suite a guest suite. The ground floor living space was gutted, and a large open plan, partially double volume living space housing the family room, dining room, kitchen and ancillary spaces created. A new 6x13meter lanai next to the pool was added on the only piece of usable land on the north side , growing out of the mountain, with spectacular views to the north and west. The original cellar was retained as a wine cellar and a home theatre with views into the pool. Sometimes you see homes that are nice but soimetimes you see homes that are so trendy they are actually classified as hip or even cool by most of us.. Of course trends change and that is the reason I like to stick with the overall broad definition of the modern contemporary style of design vs the more trendy movement styles that come and go on a two year cycle it seems..

A modern greek home

Man, these poor, poor home owners. To have to live in such unpleasant-looking, deplorable conditions. And the location! Ugh! I’d rather be anywhere on the planet except here!

Not. Geez this place is AMAZING! Probably not in my personal price range, but it’s for the better, considering it’s not for sale. Who’d sell anything as beautiful as this? Who would ever leave any thing as beautiful as this? If we lived in this house, we’d insist all groceries and other services come to us; we’d never leave these views. Created by the brilliant Konstantinos Kontos. We love how the architecture has a sort of post-modern, Greek architectural look, and how the building was made to serve the landscape. Really modern and stunning.

For such a culture driven traditional area they sure know how to build a very modern residence that can be kept cooled during the day or AC'd for that matter by creating a situation where the sea breeze  just flows through the entire house... 

A very nice home...

Today’s eye candy comes courtesy of another Wyoming-based firm, this time Ward Blake Architects. We just can’t get enough of these rustic, modern houses that are on these giant swaths of land with stunning landscape backdrops. Makes us want to take a trip to Wyoming..and never leave!

A great place to live, breath fresh air, relax, and just let go I am sure.. A stunning home..
